PROJECT: DESIGN BOOT CAMP Activities

Future designers learn to start with their concept on paper before actually creating the finished project.

Sustainable Accessory Design class created many fashionable pieces including footwear, belts, necklaces and bracelets from recycled/reclaimed materials.

FORM + FASHION MEETS FUNCTION EVENT

IDTSD showcased their graduating interior and fashion students' portfolio designs from May 4^th thru May 7^th at the historic Old Courthouse Museum.

Mrs. Helen Wilson was honored with IDTSD Project: Design Scholarship in her name.  She was accompanied by her daughter, grand-daughter, great-granddaughter and guest designer, Jay Sario.  Mrs. Wilson is a retired Home-Ec/Tailor educator at Sioux Falls Washington High School where she mentored Creative Director, Anita Kealey.

The event opened with the sustainable design collection of Dakota By Design & LENZANITA Couture.

Show featured the Form + Fashion design challenge where both the fashion and interior students were provided with fabrics that can work in both apparel or in decoration, and they were matched with a student from the other program. This learning exercise gave them the opportunity to work with a style or color of someone else’s viewpoint as well interior students being resourceful while using pre-owned or discarded chairs to recover, refurnish or repurpose.  

Fashion runway show debuted our students' design collections

Show finale was special guest, Jay Nicolas Sario with his Project Runway collection.

Thank you to the support of friends, families, volunteers and donors that supported our scholarship fundraising efforts. This year’s event was well attended and a great time was had by all.  Graduation Brunch was held on Sunday, May 6^th at Minnehaha Country Club.

Project Runway Finalist Visits IDTSD

Jay Nicolas Sario, Project Runway finalist from Season 7 will be appearing at our annual showcase “Form + Fashion” event at the Old Courthouse Museum on Friday, May 4th.

IDTSD Creative Director Anita Kealey has shown during with Sario the past two years during sustainable fashion week.  Kealey will open with her LENZANITA Spring/Summer 2012 collection, the IDTSD interior & fashion students will debut their runway collections and Sario will close the show with an exciting finale.

Student Design Portfolios will also be on display at the Old Courthouse Museum May 4th thru May 7th.

NOTE: Classes fill early.  We try to accommodate the most popular classes and pre-requisite sessions first.  Students with fulfilled pre-requisites from previous sessions are given first options for the 4 to 5 day class choices.  Because we have students at multiple levels of experience we list alternate classes at the same date.  Please register your first choice -- as classes’ fill we will close that class date and may add more class options upon level of interest.  Please call 275-9728 or e-mail us at admissions@idtsd.org

NYC Design Market Tour: Interior Students

Our Interior Décor Students traveled to NYC  to attend the Architectural Digest Show and two major design facilities. They were able to research & collect materials for their final design project and portfolio.

An evening in New York welcomed us with blooming spring bouquets and exceptional pre-spring weather!

IDTSD Creative Director guest on Martha Stewart Show

Recently our Creative Director was a guest on the Martha Stewart Show; as a preservationist, collector and fashion historian, Ms. Anita will share more with us later. The show was pre-taped and aired on May 7th.

Fashion Week for Design Students

So many choices with plenty of inspiration, our fashion design students never lacked for fabric choices in the garment district of New York.

We experienced Couture Fashion Week at its finest at the exquisite Waldorf Astoria. 

 

...and before we left to return home, we even fit in a visit to a live taping of the Martha Stewart show.
